Mtwara registers impressive roads network-TARURA

MTWARA Region has recorded an impressive efficiency in improvement, maintenance and development of roads for the last two years.

Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) Regional Manager Engineer Zuena Mvungi said the results were due to budget increase for the Agency to 21.981bn/- in the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

Before, the agency received 8.494bn/- budget for improvement, maintenance and development of roads in the region.

She made the revelation here when speaking on the achievement made by agency in the region two years since the sixth phase government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan came into power.

According to Eng Mvungi, during the 2021/22 fiscal year, the agency had 5bn/- domestic revenue sourced from Constituency Development Fund and 8bn/- from fuel levy.

“The funds sourced from Constituency Development Fund and fuel levy led to the increase of the agency’s budget from 8.494bn/- to 21.981bn/- in 2021/2022 fiscal year,” she said.

She said the funds have been used to construct 23 kilometres tarmac roads, 172 kilometres gravel roads, 238.85 earthen roads, 113 normal culverts and 27 box culverts.
