Mtwara Region unveils strategies to curb road carnage

MTWARA: IN response to the growing number of road accidents across the country, the Police Force in Masasi District, Mtwara Region, has intensified efforts to address the issue by closely monitoring the behavior of drivers and other road users. The initiative aims to ensure that the road safety education provided is effectively put into practice.

Speaking to truck drivers at the Napupa bus terminal, the Head of the Road Safety Unit in Masasi District, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anthony Ngonyani, urged drivers to prioritize safety and avoid negligence that could lead to accidents. He emphasized the importance of addressing even minor issues in their vehicles, rather than ignoring them.

SP Ngonyani further cautioned drivers against overtaking other vehicles without proper precaution, stating that such actions have contributed significantly to accidents that could otherwise have been prevented. He highlighted attentiveness and patience on the road as essential tools for every responsible driver.

Additionally, he reminded drivers about the critical importance of maintaining a safe distance between vehicles. He noted that this practice helps reduce the severity of accidents in emergencies. Many accidents, he said, result from drivers failing to observe this simple yet fundamental rule.

The Masasi Police Force has pledged to continue its road safety education campaigns targeting both drivers and passengers, with the ultimate goal of fostering a culture of safety and significantly reducing road accidents to protect the lives of all road users.
