USA: AS the clock ticks down to one of the biggest nights in music, the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) are set to light up Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena today.

Celebrating its 30th edition, the star-studded ceremony promises to deliver unforgettable performances, celebrity appearances and plenty of surprises, with Taylor Swift leading the pack in nominations for the second consecutive year.

Rita Ora returns as host Returning for a historic third time, singer-songwriter Rita Ora is set to host the event, making her the first-ever three-time host of the MTV EMAs.

“I’m over the moon to be back with my MTV family,” Ora said, adding that the EMAs stage “has become like another home” to her. “This year’s show in Manchester is going to be absolutely incredible!”

Taylor Swift, fresh off her record-breaking success at the MTV VMAs where she became the most decorated solo artist of all time, leads with seven nominations, including ‘Best Artist,’ ‘Best Video,’ ‘Biggest Fans’ and ‘Best Pop.’

But she’s facing stiff competition from pop powerhouses like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter. Meanwhile, 19 artists are in the running for their first-ever MTV EMA, including Kehlani and Tinashe for ‘Best R&B,’ Fontaines DC for ‘Best Alternative’ and The Last Dinner Party for ‘Best New Artist.’

Busta Rhymes to receive global icon award in a major highlight of the evening, hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes will be honoured with the MTV EMA Global Icon Award. The 12-time GRAMMY Award nominee will also take the stage for a performance of his greatest hits.

“I am beyond honoured and grateful to receive the MTV EMA Global Icon Award,” Rhymes said. “This recognition is not only a celebration of my career but also of hip-hop culture.”

Potential records to be broken at the 2024 MTV EMAs Taylor Swift Most MTV EMAs won: Currently, Justin Bieber holds the record with 22 EMAs, while Taylor Swift is second with 15 EMAs. Eminem Most Awarded Rapper: Eminem currently holds the record for the most MTV EMAs won by a rapper, with 14 EMAs. He is nominated for 2 more awards in 2024: Best Video and Best Hip Hop. A win in both categories would increase his total to 16 EMAs.

Nicki Minaj Most Awarded Female Rapper: Nicki Minaj currently holds the record for the most EMAs won by a female rapper with 12 EMAs. She is nominated for two awards in 2024: Best Hip Hop and Biggest Fans. If she wins both, she will tie Eminem as the most awarded rapper in EMA history with 14 EMAs.

Second Most Awarded Female Artist: Nicki Minaj is tied with Lady Gaga for the second most EMAs won by a female artist, with both having 12 EMAs. If Minaj wins both of her nominations in 2024, she will surpass Gaga, breaking the tie and securing her 13th EMA.

Lady Gaga Second Most Awarded Female Artist: Currently tied with Nicki Minaj at 12 EMAs, Lady Gaga has a chance to break the tie and become the second most awarded female artist if she wins her nomination in Best Collaboration for her track “Die with a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars. A win in this category would bring her total to 13 EMAs.

Star-studded performances The 2024 MTV EMAs will feature an all-star lineup of performers, including Shawn Mendes, Peso Pluma, RAYE, Teddy Swims, The Warning, Tyla, LE SSERAFIM and Pet Shop Boys. The event promises to deliver a spectacular mix of genres and musical legends.
