MTIBWA Sugar move top after Stand United win

MOROGORO: Mtibwa Sugar are back on top of the Championship League summit following a commanding 2-0 victory over Stand United at Manungu Stadium in Morogoro.

The win sees Mtibwa move into the top spot for the second time this season, capitalizing on Geita Gold’s slip-up in Mbeya.

Geita Gold, who had led the league for several weeks, were defeated 2-0 by Mbeya Kwanza, allowing Mtibwa Sugar to leapfrog them at the top of the standings.

With 19 points from eight games, Mtibwa Sugar have firmly placed themselves in the title race, boasting six wins, one draw, and one loss so far.

Geita Gold, who had held the top spot for several weeks, now sit second with 17 points. Despite the 2-0 loss to Mbeya Kwanza, they remain strong contenders for a top-three finish, having won five of their eight matches.

Stand United, from Shinyanga, are third with 15 points, having won five and lost three. However, their lack of draws is hindering their ability to keep pace with the league leaders.
