Mpango to grace Tanzania health summit

THE Vice-President, Dr Philip Mpango is expected to officiate at a three-day Tanzania Health Summit (THS) which kicks off today at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam.

THS is organising its 9th annual summit from today to Thursday, a hybrid in-house and online gathering, featuring more than 40 high-profile speakers from a dozen countries in Africa and beyond.

Under the theme “Quality of Healthcare in Tanzania: The Current Status and Area of Improvement toward achieving HSSP V”, the summit seeks to explore and inform stakeholders about the present situation and the areas that will need more resources and efforts to achieve HSSP V quality targets.

The Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) Tuimarishe Afya Project, a Swiss-Tanzania Cooperation Project, funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is one of the main sponsors of the summit.

HPSS aims at promoting continued collaborative efforts of the public and private sector in ensuring delivery of quality healthcare to the Tanzanian population.

“During the summit, HPSS project will showcase its contributions towards the achievement of HSSP V through project innovations, specifically the improved Community Health Fund (CHF Iliyoboreshwa) and the complementary health commodities supply chain (Jazia Prime Vendor System)”, said Ally Kebby, Project Manager at HPSS project.

Additionally, HPSS project will share its various study findings that provide insight in its approaches towards the realisation of Tanzania’s HSSP V at the two-hour forum slated for Wednesday, 12 October 2022 under the banner: “Realizing the Tanzanian Health Sector Strategic Plan: Past and current contributions of the Swiss- Tanzanian Health Promotion and System Strengthening Project”

Alongside the main theme and sub-themes, the summit will offer over 100 research and programme presentations, a diversity of parallel health forums and symposiums from various organisations, exhibitions, a youth workshop; further innovation, healthcare recognition awards and cocktail receptions.

The resolutions from the meeting will feed into the 23rd Joint Annual Health Sector Technical Review Meeting and the Annual Health Sector Policy Review Meeting in November and December 2022 respectively.
