Mother jailed 30 years for heroin trafficking
TABORA: A 39-YEAR old mother, Caroline Isack, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Igunga District Court in Tabora Region after being convicted of trafficking 88 packets of heroin weighing 10.6 grammes.
The court found Ms Isack, a resident of Kamando Street in Igunga District, guilty of trafficking the narcotic drug in violation of the law.
Prosecutors Grace Lwila, Albanus Ndunguru and Neema Igongi told the court that on August 20, 2025, in the morning, the accused was arrested along Singida Road in Igunga town by officers from the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA), Western Zone, while transporting the heroin.
The prosecutors said the drugs comprised 88 packets weighing 10.6 grammes and that the accused committed the offence contrary to Section 16(i) and (ii) of the Drug Control and Enforcement Act, Cap 95, as revised in 2023.
When the charge was read to her, she denied the offence, prompting the prosecution to call seven witnesses to testify against her.
The witnesses gave evidence linking the accused to the offence, while Ms Isack defended herself and did not call any witnesses. After hearing evidence from both sides, Igunga District Magistrate Edda Kahindi found the prosecution evidence sufficient to prove the case against her beyond reasonable doubt.

Before the sentence was handed down, prosecutor Ndunguru asked the court to impose a stiff penalty, arguing that the offence involved the trafficking and distribution of drugs, which could contribute to the destruction of young peopleβs lives.
In her ruling, Magistrate Kahindi said the evidence presented by the prosecution had established the accusedβs guilt and sentenced her to 30 years in prison.
She said the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to other people involved in the trafficking and sale of narcotic drugs in the country.
