Moshi roads get 9bn/- boost
KILIMANJARO: THE government has allocated 9.085bn/- for road infrastructure development in Moshi District in the 2026/27 financial year, aiming to improve transport networks and accelerate socioeconomic development.
Moshi District Commissioner Godfrey Mnzava announced the allocation while launching two road construction machines donated by Moshi Rural MP Moris Makoi and Vunjo MP Enock Koola to support road maintenance in the two constituencies.
He said 6.26bn/- of the allocation will finance road projects implemented by the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), while 2.825bn/- will support works under the Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads).
Mr Mnzava commended the two legislators for complementing government efforts to improve road infrastructure, saying the donated equipment will enhance road maintenance and stimulate economic and social development in the two constituencies.
He said leaders who honour their campaign pledges through action strengthen public trust and contribute to national development.
“The government’s investment in road infrastructure is intended to accelerate development, and support from other stakeholders reflects the spirit of partnership in nation-building,” he said. Mr Mnzava urged committees appointed to manage the equipment to ensure it is properly maintained and used solely for the intended purpose to maximise benefits for local communities.

Speaking at the event, Moshi Rural MP Moris Makoi said the donation marks the first phase of a broader plan to improve road infrastructure in areas served by the Moshi District Council.
He said the equipment will help address road maintenance challenges and improve accessibility, while complementing government initiatives to upgrade transport infrastructure.
Vunjo MP Enock Koola called on residents to cooperate with the committees overseeing the equipment to ensure it is used effectively and delivers the intended benefits.
He said community support and proper management of the machines will help improve road infrastructure and promote development across the two constituencies.
