Morogoro, Tanga to face power outages from July 9 to 14, 2026

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced scheduled power outages in parts of the Morogoro and Tanga regions from July 9 to July 14, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., to facilitate conductor stringing works for the 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma Power Transmission Line Project.

According to TANESCO, the works involve stringing conductors across an existing 33kV transmission line in Morogoro as part of the broader project to strengthen Tanzania’s national electricity transmission infrastructure. The utility said the temporary power interruption is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and the public while allowing the project to be completed within the scheduled timeframe.

In Morogoro Region, the affected areas include the Mkulazi Feeder, which supplies the Mkulazi Sugar Factory, and the Turiani Feeder, covering several locations in Mvomero District. These include Wami Sokoine, the Mvomero District Commissioner’s Office, the Mvomero District Council offices, villages in Dakawa, Mvomero, Kinda, Maskati, Hembeti, Mkindo, Sungaji, Mhonda, Kweuma, Diongoya, Mtibwa, Kanga, Mziha and Pemba wards, as well as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station.

In Kilosa District, the outage will affect Dumila, Kitete, Ukaguru, Mfuru, Madudu, Mabana, Mateteni, Mbigiri and villages within Magole Division.

In Tanga Region, TANESCO said the affected areas include parts of Kilindi District, specifically the villages of Kikunde, Kwekivu, Ludewa, Tunguli, Namtoro and neighboring communities. Some villages in Gairo District will also experience power interruptions during the same period.

TANESCO has urged customers in all affected areas to take the necessary precautions and plan their activities in advance. The utility emphasized that the temporary outages are essential to ensure the safe execution of the works and the timely completion of the strategic transmission project aimed at improving the reliability and capacity of Tanzania’s national power grid.
