‘More policy reviews to spur financial inclusion’

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government is set to further review and improve various policies and guidelines to promote financial inclusion and advance cashless economy.

The Deputy Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology Engineer Maryprisca Mahundi (pictured) stated this at the signing ceremony of business partnership between the Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) and AzamPay Limited held in Dar es Salaam.

At the event, the two entities have officially launched the aggregator services through a campaign dubbed “ULIPO TUPO’, meaning where TPC operates, the Azampesa is also available.

Representing the Minister for the docket, Mr Nape Nnauye, Eng Mahundi said the government will continue to improve various policies and guidelines for the betterment of all citizens.

“The government will continue to improve the policy, legal and institutional systems to promote financial inclusion in the country,” she said.

The Deputy Minister commended the partnership between the TPC and AzamPay Limited in launching the aggregator services, saying the move is in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s 4Rs Philosophy.

“This is a very good thing for the future of delivering financial services to the citizens and the entire Tanzanian community,” she underlined.

She added that the partnership will strengthen the money circulation from the common citizens to the middle and upper classes, making it easier for individual and the nation to pursue development activities.

According to her, the TPC strategy reflects the ruling party CCM’s manifesto (2020-2025) which directs the government to “ensure that science, technology and innovation are fully utilised in running the sector and promoting the economy”.

Eng Maryprisca said the manifesto directed the government to supervise the policy, legal and management principles of the financial sector, including increasing access to financial services at low cost by expanding the scope of using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in provision of financial services especially low income and those living in rural areas where financial services are not easily accessible.

For his side, Postmaster General, Eng Maharage Chande said the signed business partnership is one of the strategies that the corporation continues to implement to develop business scope and increase efficiency in serving customers.

“This partnership will boost the corporation’s revenue and accelerate country’s economic growth and development,” Eng Chande asserted. For his part, Director of Wallet-AzamPay, Mr Ibrahim Malando said through partnership they are determined to reach all Tanzanians and ensure that no citizen is left behind in accessing financial service due to cost or distance.

He also committed to continue supporting the government’s policy of financial inclusion for the growth of the country’s economy.
