DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzanian model Jasinta Makwabe is planning to establish a center to help the underprivileged in the country.

Ms. Jasinta, who is also an actress, said she has been supporting this group for a long time, but now she wants to expand the initiative to support more people.

“I strongly believe I will establish an orphanage because helping people is something that I like to do next,” she said.

Commenting on the fashion industry, the model noted that the biggest challenges they are facing are payment issues and the lack of enough fashion shows to showcase their innovations.

“For example, if you ask someone which model they know, you will find that there are no new models being recognized; it’s the same old models.

But the truth is, there are a lot of models in the country, it’s just that there are no fashion shows for them to showcase themselves,” she emphasized.

According to the actress, the earnings do not reflect the effort the artists are making, which discourages them and prevents them from excelling to the next level.

“On the other hand, here in Tanzania, parents and guardians have little awareness of the modeling industry, and it is still difficult for them to allow their children to join the industry,” the model stressed.

However, she advised young people who wish to enter modeling to study first in order to achieve their dreams properly.

Ms Makwabe said she believes in education and that young people entering fashion with education will be much better off.

“I have done all those things when I was in school. I started when I was in school. They should not leave school because of getting into fashion.

They can do it while they are studying when they have a chance, but that is in college because you can do it when you are free,” said Makwabe.
