Mndolwa wins Waitara Golf title
DAR ES SALAAM: SENIOR golfer Edmund Mndolwa demonstrated his exceptional skills on the course, overcoming a strong field to claim the NBC 2025 Waitara Golf Trophy title at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.
Playing off a handicap of 12, Mndolwa, a member of the General team, delivered an outstanding six-under-par 66 nett, securing the overall title in the 18-hole tournament held over the weekend.
The annual event, organised by TPDF Lugalo Golf Club and sponsored by NBC Bank, brought together golfers from across the country to honor the club’s founder, General (rtd) George Waitara.
Established in 2006, Lugalo’s par-72 course has become a premier venue for competitive golf and talent development in Tanzania.
The host club showcased its dominance, securing all but one title in this year’s edition.
Winners received their trophies and other awards from Chief Guest General Waitara in a ceremony held after the tournament.
He commended the winners, sponsors, players and all those who contributed to the event’s success.
The Waitara Trophy tournament concluded successfully, delivering thrilling performances at Lugalo Golf Club.

Golfers from various divisions displayed remarkable skills, with standout performances determining the winners across multiple categories.
Division A saw Enosh Wanyenche claim victory with a nett score of 73, while handicap 9, Kiki Ayonga, finished a close second with a nett score of 74.
In Division B, Joseph Tango a former Tanzania Golf Union chairman secured the top spot with a gross score of 83 and a nett score of 69, while handicap 15, Marcel Lubuva, took second place with a nett score of 72. G.
Severine, playing off a handicap of 22, won the Division C category with a nett score of 72.
Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club golfer A. Aguiar, with a handicap of 19, finished as runner-up with a nett score of 74.
In the senior category, handicap 10 Joseph Tairo claimed first place with an impressive nett score of 69, while Salvatory Rwabizi followed in second with a nett score of 72.
The ladies’ category was dominated by handicap 11, Habiba Juma, who carded a nett score of 71, as handicap 12, Joyce Werega, secured second place with a nett score of 73.
In the junior boys’ category, Nasri Abedi (handicap 20) emerged as champion with a stunning nett score of 66, while Edward Malimi (handicap 15) was runner-up with a nett score of 68.
The junior girls’ title went to Sabrina Juma (handicap 18) with a nett score of 82.
Special awards saw Timea Choggo win Nearest to the Pin, while Elly Juma took the longest drive in the men’s category and Khadija Selemani claimed the longest drive among the ladies.
The tournament was a resounding success, with players showcasing skill, strategy and sportsmanship.
Thanks to General Waitara, Lugalo Golf Club reaffirmed its reputation as a premier venue for competitive golf.
The competition was overseen by Major Japhet Masai, Lugalo Golf Club’s Golf Captain, who praised the participants, particularly the young golfers, for their exceptional performances.
The event also marked the final tournament under Club Chairman Michael Luwongo, highlighting remarkable talent and sportsmanship while reinforcing Lugalo Golf Club’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of golf champions in Tanzania
