THE Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adolph Mkenda is expected to grace the graduation ceremony of over 400 students who completed their studies in overseas universities.
Director of Global Education Link (GEL), Abdlulmalik Mollel, told the ‘Daily News’ on Friday ahead of the graduation ceremony which will be held tomorrow August 21 at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam.
He said that the ceremony will involve among others ambassadors and high commissioners of the countries where the Tanzanian students have studied and representatives from the respective universalities.
Mr Mollel further said that other invited guests who have confirmed participation are from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry for Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education Zanzibar, NBAA and Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and Medical Council of Tanganyika.
He further said that students who are expecting to go abroad for studies are also invited to take part in the event so that they can also be inspired.
The Director said students who will travel abroad for studies are required to market their country to attract investors and tourists to come to Tanzania to complement the government efforts for the country’s economic growth.
“We have seen how our president travelled in different countries to market our country. She has been marketing our natural resources through the Royal Tour documentary,”.
“The President cannot do this work alone, we have to support her,” said Mr Mollel.
Either, Mr Mollel said he needs to see every student who goes abroad for studies come back with investors and tourists when they return instead of coming back with their certificates alone.
“We are not going abroad to just seek for certificates but we have to graduate with knowledge and skills that will help our nation to move forward,” said Mollel.
He added that the graduation will be for all students who have graduated from universities abroad, regardless whether they went under the coordination of the Global Education Link (GEL), saying that any graduate can go to GEL website and register themselves for the graduation ceremony.
