Mkenda opens international conference on mechanical, industrial engineering

MINISTER for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adolf Mkenda will today open an international conference on mechanical and industrial engineering.
The conference that will involve about 200 delegates from Tanzania and outside the country is held once every two years.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) College of Engineering and Technology (CoET) Head of Mechanical and Industry Engineering Department, Dr Innocent Macha said the aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for researchers to discuss and share ideas on various issues to enhance their knowledge and efficiency.
“This conference will provide an opportunity for our researchers to discuss with other researchers about the results of their research and innovations in achieving the efficiency and productivity of the industrial and other related sectors,” said Dr Macha
In addition, he said the results of the conference that will identify priorities in research will be used to improve teaching curricula,” he said.
Dr Macha said it will also help to strengthen the relationship between the department and other stakeholders, especially in the industry sector as they appreciate the contribution of the industry and the employers of their graduates in improving their careers and services.
“We believe that cooperation in increasing the use of science, technology and creativity can stimulate more competition in the production and distribution of technology, products and services,” said Dr Macha
He said apart from the conference that will discuss the significance of raw materials and production, energy, and industrial management, there will also be exhibitions of research and innovation from various stakeholders.
This year’s conference theme is ‘Promoting the sustainability of industries based on natural resources in production through science, technology and innovation’.
