TANGA: MINISTER for Education, Science and Technology Professor Adolf Mkenda has launched a special campaign to protect girls and support them to reach their full potential.
The campaign aims at ensuring that the girls complete their studies and reach their dreams in Pangani District, Tanga Region ‘Niache Nisome, Pangani inanitegemea’ with a call to make it a national campaign.
Prof Mkenda said the challenges faced by girls are not confined to Pangani. He said the ‘Niache Nisome, Pangani inanitegemea’ should be the national slogan to protect girls and make them achieve their ambitions and enable the nation to have more female experts in various fields.
He commended the Pangani District Commissioner, Zainab Abdallah Issa and the Minister for Water, Jumaa Awesso who is also Pangani Member of Parliament, for coming up with the campaign.
He said that the campaign was in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s dream of liberating girls from the yoke of inequalities in various sectors.
Minister Mkenda agreed to request by Mr Awesso, to consider upgrading Funguni Secondary School to Advanced level.
He said he would send the ministry’s experts to visit the school and see its requirements for upgrading it to high school.
The minister further disclosed that plans were ongoing for upgrading Madanga Secondary School to Advanced level.
Earlier, Awesso said currently there was only one High School – Mwera, whose performance convinced them that Pangani residents are serious with their quest to succeed in education.
Awesso said Funguni was an important icon in Pangani’s secondary education because it was the first school in the area.
