Mixx winner turns prize into community investment

COAST REGION: A Vikindu resident plans to use part of a 50m/- grand prize won through Mixx’s digital payments campaign to build a health centre, highlighting how customer reward programmes are helping turn digital financial inclusion into community investment.
Mohammed Misanga’s dream of improving healthcare services in his community received a major boost after he emerged as the grand prize winner in Mixx’s Kila Muamala ni Bao la Ushindi, Ikiingia tu Goli campaign, conducted in partnership with Hisense.
Speaking during the campaign’s grand finale and prize presentation ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Mixx Chief Executive Officer Ms Angelica Pesha said this year’s winners had demonstrated how digital financial services can become a catalyst for achieving personal ambitions while transforming the lives of ordinary Tanzanians.
“This campaign has become much more than a promotional initiative. We have witnessed our customers turning their dreams into reality.
Every winner shared how the prizes had changed their lives. Some expanded their businesses, others paid school fees, some invested at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, while others travelled abroad for the first time.
The campaign has positively impacted not only the winners but also their families and the communities around them. That is the true meaning of our slogan, ‘Kila Muamala ni Bao la Ushindi’,” she said.
Ms Pesha said the nearly two-month campaign was launched to celebrate the FIFA World Cup with Tanzanians while encouraging wider adoption of digital financial services.
More than 100 customers benefited from the promotion, winning cash prizes, Hisense electronic appliances and five all-expenses-paid trips to Mexico to watch the FIFA World Cup.
She said the campaign also accelerated the use of Mixx’s digital platforms, with thousands of transactions processed during the promotion.
“We have seen encouraging growth in the use of Mixx services throughout the campaign. We remain committed to developing innovative digital solutions that simplify the lives of Tanzanians, including money transfers, bill payments, merchant payments through Lipa kwa Simu, investment services and the Mixx Super App,” Ms Pesha said.
Speaking on behalf of Hisense, Mars Communications Chief Operating Officer Tahera Karim said the partnership demonstrated how collaboration between private-sector companies can create tangible social impact beyond commercial objectives.
“From the beginning, our goal was to celebrate and reward our customers with valuable prizes. Today, we are delighted to see one of those prizes becoming a source of hope for an entire community.
Mohammed’s dream of establishing a health centre shows that our partnership with Mixx has delivered results that extend beyond business and create lasting value for society,” she said.
Grand prize winner Mohammed Misanga said part of the prize money would be used to support his parents while fulfilling his long-standing ambition of establishing a health centre to improve access to healthcare services for residents of Vikindu and surrounding communities.
Misanga admitted that until a day before receiving the prize, he still struggled to believe he had actually won, describing the experience as feeling “like a movie” rather than reality.
He thanked Mixx and Hisense for organising the campaign, saying the prize had transformed his life and given him the opportunity to realise a dream that would benefit not only his family but also thousands of people in his community by bringing healthcare services closer to where they live.
