Mixx leadership shift signals new chapter

DAR ES SALAAM: Mixx Tanzania has unveiled a leadership transition as it moves to strengthen its executive team and build on its position in the country’s growing digital financial services market.
The transition will see fintech executive Louis-Olivier Favot take over as Chief Executive Officer from Angelica Pesha, who is concluding more than 15 years with the company.
Favot brings 17 years of experience across banking, microfinance, mobile money and digital financial services, including 14 years in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Pesha joined the business during the early days of Tigo Pesa and became CEO in 2020, leading its evolution into Mixx and overseeing key developments in mobile money, payments, savings and digital lending.
In August this year, Mixx won the Mobile Financial Services Innovation award and was first runner-up in Digital Business Innovation, while Pesha received the Female ICT Leadership Award.
Commenting on the transition, AXIAN Digibank & Fintech CEO Erwan Gelebart commended Pesha for her role in building the business.
“Angelica has been more than an important part of Mixx’s journey; she largely built the business, together with her team, from humble beginnings into a major player and trusted partner in the everyday lives of Tanzanians,” Mr Gelebart said.
With Pesha concluding her tenure, Favot now takes the helm with extensive regional fintech experience.
Before joining Mixx Tanzania, he served as Chief Executive Officer of MVola, AXIAN’s digital financial services business in Madagascar, where he led its strategic direction and contributed to its evolution into Madagascar’s first digital bank.
His 17 years of experience span banking, microfinance, mobile money and digital financial services, with expertise in financial inclusion, product development, operations, customer experience, distribution and technology transformation.
Favot’s appointment comes as Mixx seeks to broaden its financial solutions for individuals, merchants and businesses.
The company’s leadership change also comes as Tanzania’s financial services market becomes increasingly competitive, with banks, mobile network operators and fintech firms expanding digital products and services to reach more customers.
Welcoming him, Mr Gelebart said: “To Louis-Olivier, karibu sana to Mixx Tanzania! I wish you every success in your new role.”
