Mixx expands services to boost agents’ earnings

DAR ES SALAAM: Mixx Tanzania plans to expand services offered through its network of more than 270,000 agents, creating additional income opportunities beyond commissions earned from cash deposits and withdrawals.

The move is expected to enable agents to serve more customer needs, attract additional transactions and grow their businesses.

Speaking at the Mixx Wakala Brunch in Dar es Salaam recently, Mixx Tanzania Chief Executive Officer Louis-Olivier Favot said expanding services at agent outlets was part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its partnership with the network.

“We plan to offer more services through your outlets so that you can earn beyond commissions from deposits and withdrawals,” he said.

The event celebrated 16 years of partnership with agents, whose network now serves about 28 million Tanzanians.

“From the early days of Tigo Pesa to Mixx today, you have helped us build this business. You open early and close late, serving customers every day. You make sure cash, float and change are available, and your communities continue to trust you,” Favot said.

However, agents’ ability to earn also depends on access to sufficient cash and electronic float to complete customer transactions. Shortages can result in lost commissions as customers seek alternative outlets.

To address this challenge, Mixx said more than 7,000 agents were already accessing additional float through Bustisha Wakala, a service introduced in partnership with KCB Bank Tanzania.

Favot encouraged more agents to use the facility to maintain sufficient float and ensure uninterrupted services.

The company is also promoting the Mixx Wakala App, which enables agents to manage transactions and monitor their businesses using mobile phones.

Under its plans towards 2030, Mixx aims to equip more agents with digital tools to improve business management and expand customer services. Favot said feedback from agents would continue guiding improvements to the company’s offerings.

He also announced plans to introduce regular meetings between agents and company leadership, including himself, to discuss operational challenges, proposed improvements and opportunities for strengthening their partnership.

In addition, Mixx will periodically review business terms and arrangements with agents to ensure mutual benefits and proper recognition of their contributions.

For John Mkwizu, a Mixx agent based in Magomeni, Dar es Salaam, reliable access to float is essential for retaining customers and protecting his earnings.

“Customers depend on us to access their money when they need it. When I cannot complete a transaction, they have to find another agent, and I lose the commission. Access to float helps me keep serving them, while the Mixx Wakala App makes it easier to manage my daily transactions,” he said.

“As an agent, I want to provide a reliable service, give customers a reason to return and earn enough to grow my business.”
