Missenyi rapist jailed 30 years

WITH cases of violence against children escalating in the country, the Missenyi District Magistrate’s court has sentenced a 54-year old Mahamoud Idi to 30 years in jail for raping an eight- year old girl.

Prosecuting Police Inspector ZakayoNapegwa told the court during hearing of the Criminal Case that the convict, a resident of Kanyigo Ward in Kigarama Village committed the offense on October 26th, 2022.

He told the court that on that material date, Idi asked the girl (name withheld), a Standard Two pupil to collect grass and when the unsuspecting girl brought him the grass at around 1 p.m.  Idi pulled her into his room and raped her.

The girl narrated the ordeal to her mother who reported the matter to the Kanyigo police sub-station leading to the arrest of the accused.

Before passing the sentence, Missenyi District Magistrate YohanaMyombo denounced the accused describing him as a beast who did not deserve to live in a civilized society.

He explained that the prosecution had proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced the accused to 30 years imprisonment.
