DODOMA: MINISTER of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youths, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Mr Ridhiwani Kikwete, has urged the Labour, Economic and Social Council (LESCO) to uphold the tripartite system of dialogue to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in executing its duties.
Mr Ridhiwani made the call in Dodoma yesterday while officiating at a two-day meeting of the council, which marked the official inauguration of the new council and capacity-building for its members.
In three years of serving, LESCO will be responsible for advising the minister responsible for labour and employment on all matters related to work, employment, economy and society.
The minister emphasised the need for the council to maintain professionalism and prioritise the country’s interests in alignment with the sixth phase government’s philosophy of serving the people.
“The structure of the council comprises representatives of the tripartite-plus system, which includes members representing the interests of the government, employers and workers, as well as appointees with relevant expertise,” he said.
According to the Minister, the tripartite structure ensures the participation of key stakeholders in the world of work, allowing for the consideration of diverse perspectives and interests in decision-making for the country’s broader benefit.

“Essentially, this setup aligns with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention No. 144 of 1976 on Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards), which Tanzania ratified on May 30, 1983,” he stressed.
“I expect the council to perform its functions efficiently to support the Sixth Phase Government’s agenda of building the economy, expanding employment and serving the community,” Mr Kikwete stated.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youths, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Ms Mary Maganga, commended the minister for supporting the council’s efforts, pledging to continue leading it with efficiency, professionalism and adherence to the tripartite principle to fulfill its purpose.
