Ministry set special programme to resolve water woes in Pemba

ZANZIBAR: WATER ministry has prepared a special programme to address water woes in the entire Pemba Island, the House of Representatives was told here on Wednesday.

Deputy Minister for Water, Energy and Minerals Zawadi Amour Nassor informed the House that a total of 31 schemes were established to address the water challenge in the island, noting that a 300,000-litre water tank scheme at Kengeja suburb is part of the solution.

She said execution of Kengeja project is on progress, noting that despite the water tank, the project also includes laying of 13-kilometre water pipes, drilling of one water well and water connection to households.

The deputy minister was answering a question by Wingwi Representative Kombo Mwinyi Shehe who decried water challenge in Micheweni District, seeking to hear the government plan to address the challenge.
