Ministry opens 200bn/- youth loans for livestock, fisherie

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has opened applications for 200bn/- in loans targeting youth groups seeking to invest in livestock and fisheries enterprises across the country.

The funding follows President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to support young people through access to affordable financing and is intended to help beneficiaries establish and expand businesses in the two sectors.

According to a public notice issued by the ministry, eligible youth groups can apply for loans to undertake activities including fish farming, poultry production, beekeeping, livestock keeping, fishing, fish processing and aquaculture.

The loans will also support investment in fishing boats, cold-chain facilities, fish storage and processing equipment, as well as other infrastructure aimed at increasing productivity and improving value addition in the livestock and fisheries sectors.

The ministry said the programme is designed to create employment opportunities for young people while increasing production and strengthening the contribution of the livestock and fisheries sectors to the economy.

Applications will be received through District, Municipal and City Executive Directors’ offices, where interested groups are required to submit completed application forms together with the necessary supporting documents.

The ministry has set September 14, 2026, as the deadline for submitting applications and urged eligible youth groups to lodge their requests within the specified period.

The programme forms part of ongoing government efforts to expand economic opportunities for young people through productive investment in key sectors of the economy
