The Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports has appointed former Taifa Stars and Young Africans player Ally Mayay ‘Tembele’ as acting director of Sports, replacing Yusuph Singo who has been tasked with other responsibilities.
A Tuesday’s statement issued by the Ministry says the appointment of Mayay is effective from today (September 20th, 2022).
It further indicates that the responsible Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa has blessed Mayay’s appointment amid the country’s quest to improve efficiency in the sports sector.
Sports fraternity have therefore been called to provide necessary support to Mayay during his new responsibilities.
Among others, Mayay is a well-known sports pundit in the country who usually analyses football matches at Azam Television.
He is also chairman of the Tanzania Football Legends Association (TFLA) which comprises former football players.
Apart from playing for the national team, he also played at Young Africans where he has left behind a reputable record.
