The Minister of Health, Ummy Mwalimu has asked the Members of Parliament (MPs) to pass the Universal Health Coverage Bill 2022 on Friday for the State to be in the position of providing health services to all groups including elders without restrictions.
Minister Ummy made the call in the Parliament, Dodoma on Tuesday as she insisted that “aging is inevitable.”
According to Minister Ummy, the Ministry is optimistic that passing of the bill will be an important step that will help the group to get medicine without any restrictions.
Ummy convinced MPs to pass the bill when reacting to Lushoto lawmaker, Shaaban Shekilindi’s question sought to know the government’s plan to improve healthcare for the elders.
The Minister told Parliament that the Government continues to strengthen health services for the group.
Elaborating further, the Minister said that in this financial year, 2022/2023, a new structure has been adopted which enables the Ministry to have a section within the Directorate of Medicine.
She added that the section will be dealing with Geriatrics, Rehabilitation services and Palliative Therapy.
The Minister concluded by saying: “Aging is inevitable, the Sixth Phase Government will continue to Honor our elders.”
