Minister orders mandatory training for village leaders

DODOMA: IN a move to bolster the effectiveness of local governance, Deputy Minister ( President’s Office) Regional Administration and Local Government Ms Zainab Katimba has directed capacity-building training for local government leaders across Tanzania.

Speaking during a working visit to the Local Government Training Institute (LGTI) at Hombolo, in Dodoma Ms Katimba directed the institute to liaise with all district councils that have yet to implement the government’s directive for the training.

“This training is mandatory, not optional, establish communication to ensure that this training can be conducted for chairpersons. The training you provide has a noble purpose of building the capacity of all those working in local government authorities so they can fulfil their responsibilities effectively,” Ms Katimba stressed.

The deputy minister noted the non-negotiable nature of the training, saying its important in empowering local leaders to better serve their communities.

She urged the institute to ensure that all local government chairpersons receive this crucial training, which is designed to enhance their ability to fulfil their duties efficiently.

Ms Katimba also highlighted the need for a paradigm shift in the thinking of local government authorities.

The deputy minister stressed that these authorities should not only focus on service delivery but also act as catalysts for economic development within their jurisdictions.

“Our local government authorities should be a tool for stimulating and empowering citizens in various incomegenerating activities across different sectors,” Ms Katimba added.
