Minister Mchengerwa in bid to curb drug shortage in hospital

COAST REGION: THE Minister for State, Office of the President, Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has expressed his frustration with the drug shortage at Utete Hospital and has demanded that the Rufiji District Medical Officer, Hamis Abdallah, to address the issue promptly in order to ensure residents continue to receive quality healthcare.

Mchengerwa issued these instructions during a work visit to encourage accountability at Rufiji District Hospital in Utete.

He made it clear that he no longer wanted to hear about shortages of medicines in the hospital.

The Minister further pointed out that Rufiji had never experienced a drug shortage crisis before and referenced the tenure of Dr. Makenge, a former District Medical Officer of Rufiji, as an example of effective management.

Additionally, Mchengerwa commended the district’s doctors and healthcare workers for their efforts in reducing maternal and child mortality rates and for combating corruption, particularly with regard to the treatment of expectant mothers seeking maternal healthcare services at hospitals and health centers across the country.

One of the residents of Rufiji, Mwema Said, expressed gratitude to the Minister for the improvements made to the hospital’s infrastructure.

She highlighted that citizens were now benefiting from the newly constructed wards, the medical equipment that had been purchased, and the quality healthcare services being provided.
