COAST REGION: THE Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Mohamed Mchengerwa, wants the Ikwiriri road be completed within two months.
Minister Mchengerwa has directed the Manager of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in the area, Eng Leopold Runji, to ensure that contractors complete the construction of the paved roads in Ikwiriri within two months, so that the local community can benefit from the infrastructure improvements being undertaken by the government.
Mchengerwa issued this directive during his official visit to inspect the progress of the road construction in the Rufiji district.
“I am giving just two months. The roads must be completed by May 30, 2025, including the installation of drainage systems and streetlights. There will be no extension of the deadline,” Minister Mchengerwa emphasized.

He further instructed TARURA to closely supervise the contractors to ensure that they work day and night, stressing that the roads were initially scheduled to be completed by December 2024.
He warned that if the construction is not completed within the set timeframe, he will hold the TARURA Manager for the Coast Region accountable.
The completion of these roads is a key part of the Government’s broader effort to improve infrastructure, which is expected to facilitate trade, enhance mobility, and promote regional economic growth.
Roads like those in Ikwiriri are vital to connecting rural communities with larger urban centers, improving access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets.
