Minister hails TBC’s World Cup coverage
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which officially kicked off on Sunday; saw Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) airing the launch ceremony in Qatar at their Head Quarters in Dar es Salaam.
During the event, Tanzanian football fans had the opportunity to witness the hosts Qatar suffering a 2-0 loss to Ecuador in the opening encounter at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar.
Enner Valencia scored both goals for Ecuador in the 16th and 31st minutes and secured three points to go top of Group A; the group also includes Netherlands and Senegal.
Before the match took action, the Information, Communication and Information Technology Minister, Nape Nnauye, had the opportunity to speak with the guests who arrived at TBC and the rest of Tanzania regarding TBC’s productive investment in airing this year’s world cup, especially in extremely high quality (HD).
“I am happy to be here; I travelled from Lindi to witness this event and make sure all Tanzanians enjoy TBC’s effort to entertain football fans witnessing the World Cup finals.”
He further noted President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government is committed to improving the infrastructure so that Tanzania can host the African Cup of Nations in the future.
He continued that through this year’s World Cup, Tanzania could learn how to organise such high-profile competitions and believe it is possible.
For his part, Government Spokesman Gerson Msigwa stated that he has faith in TBC due to their vast experience in broadcasting football in the country. Still, it also has the best team of professional football commentators.
And the Director General of TBC, Ayub Rioba, explained how prepared they are to satisfy Tanzanians’ wishes to see the finals in the quality airing.
“TBC will air 28 World Cup matches on television while broadcasting 64 matches through radio (TBC Taifa) and our social media outlets.”
