The Ministry of Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology has directed Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) to meet with telecoms over confusion on bundle prices.
Docket’s Minister Nape Nnauye revealed this in the Parliament on Thursday when Speaker Dr Tulia Ackson required him to give explanation on the claims raised by the customer, who subscribed to a bundle amounted to 1GB but ended up getting only 800MB.
Responding to the matter, Minister Nape said telecoms can only change bundle prices every three months.
Regarding the reported case, he said, the service provider didn’t update the menu, something that caused confusion to the subscriber.
He said his Ministry has already directed the regulator to meet with stakeholders regarding the matter.
The matter was raised in the Parliament by Mkalama MP Francis Mtinga when he was deliberating on the guidelines for the preparation of the government budget for the 2023/24 financial year in Dodoma.
The rep asked if law can be enacted by the House to hold telecoms over limited bundles.
According to the MP, bundles subscribed by the customer must be unlimited and should not be conditioned to use it in a specified period of time.
Reacting on the issue, Mr Nape bundles are just “an additional service” from service providers hence if a customers prefer for unlimited service they must go for “main tariffs.”
