Minister Aweso orders completion of the Rujewa water source by September

MBEYA: THE Minister for Water, Jumaa Aweso, has ordered the water authority in Mbeya to ensure the construction of the water source in Rujewa area in Mbeya region is completed by September 2025.

He further directed the construction works to continue day and night to ensure a timely completion of the project.

Minister Aweso gave these instructions after inspecting the progress of the project, which is expected to increase water service coverage in Mbarali District from two days per week to 95 percent service availability in seven days a week.

This will help ensure that residents have access to water every day.

However, Aweso expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the project, which has currently reached only 35 percent completion.

 He emphasized the importance of increasing manpower and ordered the District Commissioner of Mbarali to closely supervise the project, including prioritizing the employment of local youths.

Additionally, Aweso referenced the directive from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to ensure the project is completed on time and confirmed that all funds required for the project are available.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water, Engineer Mwajuma Waziri, who accompanied the Minister during the inspection, stressed the need for the contractor to fulfill their contractual obligations. She also warned that her office will not hesitate to take legal action if the given directives are not fully implemented.
