Milestone as Ilemela surpasses revenue collection target
MWANZA: ILEMELA Municipal Council managing director Ms Ummy Wayayu, has said the council has exceeded its domestic revenue collection target for the 2025/2026 financial year after collecting more than 101 percent of the estimated amount, a move that enabled it to continue implementing major development projects in various sectors.
Presenting today, August 5, 2026, a report on the implementation of the council’s activities during councillor meeting, Ms Wayayu said the council was authorized to collect 16.46bn/- , but as of June 30, 2026 they had collected 16.60 bn/- , equivalent to 101 percent of the target.
She said that during the period, Ilemela council implemented development projects worth 47.39 bn/- , of which more than 4.23bn/- came from local revenue while 43.15bn/- was provided by the Central Government.
Ms Wayayu explained that a large part of the funds were channeled to the infrastructure sector through the TACTIC program which received more than 38.2bn/- , while other sectors that benefited included administration, health, primary education and secondary education.
In terms of education, She said Ilemela Council continued to perform well in the national examinations in 2025 by ranking first in the region in the results of Standard Seven (PSLE) and Form Four (CSEE), while ranking second in the Standard Four (SFNA) and Form Two (FTNA) examinations.
She noted that the Form Four pass rate increased from 99 percent in 2024 to 99.4 percent in 2025, with many students achieving high grades, making the council continue to be among the leaders in education in Mwanza region.
In strengthening the learning environment, he said in January 2026 the council distributed a total of 56,938 books to pre-primary, primary and secondary schools to improve access to learning materials.
Ms Wayayu also said in February 2026 the Council in collaboration with Sport Charity Mwanza launched the Igombe Sports Centre at a cost of 240m/- , with four sports fields for students and the community.
She added that the Government also continued to improve energy services where the Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, launched a solar power system project at a subsidized price in Bezi Island, Kayenze Ward, with citizens being encouraged to maintain the project to stimulate economic development.
In terms of compensation, She said Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Said Mtanda, visited Sangabuye, Bugogwa and Kayenze wards and directed that compensation payments to citizens be expedited, where more than 1.27bn/- had already been paid out of claims exceeding 5bn/-.
In addition, she said 540 primary and secondary school teachers were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their contribution to raising the standard of education, while executives of 19 wards and 171 districts were given certificates to improve the collection and management of operational information.

Ms Wayayu said the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Regional Administration and Local Government (RALG) commended the implementation of development projects in the council after reviewing road, hospital and school projects and stated that it had contributed to improving services to citizens.
She said that these achievements have been attributed to good resource management and accountability, which has enabled the Ilemela Municipal Council to continue to obtain Clean Certificates for four consecutive years, from the 2021/2022.
