Milestone as Government City ready for launch

DODOMA: TANZANIA is set to mark a major milestone in the transformation of its capital, Dodoma, as President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan prepares to officially launch government ministries, institutional buildings and modern tarmac roads at Mtumba Government City this Friday.
The development is expected to strengthen Dodoma’s position as the country’s administrative capital, improve public service delivery and create new economic opportunities for businesses and residents.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, said yesterday that the development represented a significant step towards establishing a modern, efficient and well-coordinated administrative centre.
Addressing journalists ahead of the inauguration, Prof Kabudi said concentrating government ministries and institutions in one location would improve coordination, facilitate communication between public institutions and enhance service delivery to citizens.
He said the development would also address challenges associated with the geographical dispersal of government offices, enabling public institutions to operate more efficiently and fulfil their national responsibilities.
“Mtumba Government City is more than buildings. It is an investment in government efficiency, the capital city of Dodoma and the broader journey towards building a Tanzania with a strong economy, better public services and modern infrastructure,” Prof Kabudi said.
He attributed the progress to the government’s continued investment in strategic infrastructure under President Samia, saying the improved facilities would provide public servants with a conducive working environment.
The newly launched tarmac roads are also expected to improve accessibility, ease transportation and strengthen connectivity within the government city and with surrounding areas.
Beyond improving government operations, Prof Kabudi said the development would stimulate economic activity in Dodoma by creating opportunities for private investors, entrepreneurs and service providers.

“The growing concentration of government operations in the capital will increase demand for transportation, accommodation, commercial activities and professional services, opening up new avenues for investment and employment,” he said.
The minister urged the private sector to seize opportunities arising from the expansion of the government city and Dodoma’s broader development, assuring investors that the government would continue creating a favourable business environment.
However, he said the project’s long-term success would depend not only on the quality of its infrastructure but also on public servants’ commitment to accountability, integrity, innovation and patriotism.
“Modern buildings alone are not enough. We also need efficient performance, work discipline and patriotism so that citizens can experience the benefits of this investment through improved government services,” he said.
Prof Kabudi called on public servants working at Mtumba to use the facilities responsibly and ensure that the improved working environment translated into tangible benefits for Tanzanians.
He also invited Dodoma residents and the public to turn out in large numbers to witness the inauguration of the government buildings and roads.
