Mgunda optimistic Namungo will end season strongly
DAR ES SALAAM: NAMUNGO FC Head Coach Juma Mgunda has expressed optimism that his team will end the season strongly, following a recent string of positive results in the Mainland Premier League.
The team collected five points from their last three matches, which included a 1-1 draw with Pamba Jiji, a 2-1 victory over KMC and 2-2 draw with JKT Tanzania.
Currently sitting on 11th place with 28 points from 26 matches, Coach Mgunda believes these results have significantly boosted the team’s morale as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, including an away game against Yanga on May 13th.
“We have gained momentum and these results have motivated the players. The belief is growing within the squad that we can continue to improve as we face the challenges ahead,” Mgunda stated.
“Our next match against Yanga will be a true test, but I’m confident that we are heading in the right direction,” he said.
While Mgunda praised the team’s progress, he acknowledged that there are still areas for improvement, particularly in defence.
Despite some ongoing errors in their defensive line, he is proud of how the squad is gradually becoming more competitive.
“This season has been extremely challenging. Every team is strong and no match is guaranteed for three points without proper preparation. However, I am pleased with the progress we’ve made, but we must address our defensive lapses before we return to league action at home against Mashujaa on April 20th,” he said.

Reflecting on their recent setbacks, including a loss to Singida Black Stars and an early exit from the Federation Cup at the hands of Kagera Sugar, Mgunda revealed that he has been working closely with the players to pinpoint areas that need improvement.
“After those defeats, I sat down with the team to analyse what went wrong. We have been following our tactical instructions more closely, but our defensive issues still need to be resolved,” he explained.
Coach Mgunda remains focused on securing Namungo’s position in the top flight for the next season, with a tough away match against Yanga seen as a critical fixture.
He believes that if the team can navigate this challenge successfully, they will be well-positioned to maintain their Premier League status.
“There are no easy games in this league. With the right tactics and strategies, we can achieve our goal of staying in the Premier League.
It is going to be a tough road ahead, but we are putting in the work to fix our previous mistakes,” Mgunda emphasised.
Acknowledging the passionate support of the fans, Mgunda assured them that the team remains committed to fighting for every point, no matter the circumstances.
“Our fans expect positive results and it’s our responsibility to give them that. We will keep fighting until the final whistle to ensure Namungo remains in the top tier,” he concluded.
