Mexime calls for trust, unity

TAIFA Stars Assistant Coach Mecky Mexime has called on unity in the squad while encouraging Tanzanians to wholeheartedly support the team saying time is now for Tanzanians to be proud of the national flag carriers.

His sentiments came barely one day after being named the right hand man to the Head Coach, Hanour Janza, after being trusted by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to steer the team in its upcoming matches.

Their first assignment is on Saturday in Kampala, Uganda when Taifa Stars play their second leg of African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against The Cranes in an encounter to decide who deserves a ticket for the 2023 CHAN finals in Algeria in January, 2023.

The country’s envoys go for the vital match while trailing 1-0 after losing the first leg battle at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, hence all hopes of making a breakthrough are cast on Janza and Mexime.

“Football is like gambling, it also resembles when doing substitutions because you hardly know if the one being introduced will make the impact you want as such; anything can happen.

“The good thing is that a game of football is played openly hence we will be judged according to our performance,” said Mexime who once captained Taifa Stars and before his current appointment to coach Cambiasso Sports Academy.

In Saturday’s match, Mexime said they will try their best to overturn the results and help Stars progress into the finals.

“We will go to Uganda with the same brigade of soldiers who are in camp because time is too long to make new call ups,” said him.

He then seized the platform to thank TFF and Tanzanians for the trust they have shown to him while urging sports fraternity to double their support of the national team by coming in big numbers to cheer Stars whenever they play.

However, the former Ndanda coach Abdul Mingange believes Janza is the right coach to take charge of the national team saying he is well experienced with Africa football.

“I know him very well and I believe he will bring on new ideas which will help to accelerate success in Taifa Stars, but he needs support from all of us,” he said.

Janza, who is a Zambian trainer, was already in the country coaching Namungo in the NBC Premier League and the team has already wished him the best of luck at the helm of the national team.
