‘Mega music festivals to brighten Tanzania’

THE government has insisted its commitment to organise mega music events including big dance music that will instantly contribute to the nation’s income.

This was revealed in Dar es Salaam by Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Mchengerwa during the Friday’s Grand Gala Dance whose chief guest was the CCM vice chairman Abdulrahman Kinana.

The Grand Gala Dance Music Festival was organised by the Chocolate Princess Chief Executive Officer, Mboni Masimba,  who is also the presenter of Mboni Talk Show Programme.

It was among the cultural activities designed to commemorate the 23 years since the founding Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere departed.

The event also involved various music artists include, Msondo Ngoma, Christian Bella, DDC Mlimani Park Orchestra, Mjengoni Classic Arusha, and African Stars Band ‘Twanga Pepeta.’

The aim of organising the event, according to the CEO, is to educate, inform, entertain, inspire, as well as serve the community.

Mchengerwa said dance music has a great contribution to the country’s economy, freedom and the liberation of the African continent in general, therefore the government has a role to play to creating its desired goals.

While addressing this, the Minister has called for a good cooperation with various culture, arts and sports stakeholders in giving out their views on how to restore the value of Tanzanian cultural and dance music.

“As the Ministry, we welcome all the stakeholders to give out their views and we promise to work with them in reviving the dance music of our country,” he added.

Additionally, the Minister commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her commitment in developing culture; arts and sports sectors while also promoting Tanzanian tourism through sports and culture.

The docket minister said the the government has also established an art fund that aims to support artists in improving their works.

He has said that all nations are recognised and distinguished by the culture and in this era of globalisation, many nations are distinguishing themselves by using their music and dress.

Ministry continues to make effort in ensuring that Tanzania has its own dance rhythm that will make Tanzania music distinctively known globally.
