Mchengerwa named the chief guest as Dodoma braces for the Charity Marathon

DODOMA: THE Health Minister, Mohamed Mchengerwa, is expected to flag off a 21km charity half-marathon organized by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC), scheduled to take place on April 4, 2026, in Dodoma City.

Speaking to the media, TNMC Registrar Agnes Mtawa stated that the primary objective of the marathon is to raise funds to strengthen the capacity of nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals working in operating theatres. She emphasized that the initiative specifically targets district hospitals and health centers that provide surgical services across the country.

Mtawa further noted that the event also aims to promote the delivery of healthcare services guided by professional ethics, ensuring that citizens receive high-quality care that respects dignity and human rights.

In addition, the marathon forms part of a broader campaign to encourage physical exercise as a strategy to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are rapidly increasing within the population.

The event will feature races covering distances of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers. It is expected to attract approximately 2,000 participants, each contributing 30,000/- The total amount targeted for collection from the event is 100m/-.
