Mbagala roads upgrade gets 52.3bn/- boost

DODOMA: A TOTAL of 52.3bn/- is being invested in the construction of 18.48 kilometres of roads within the Mbagala Constituency, Dar es Salaam, as part of the second phase of the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP-II), Parliament has revealed.
Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Mr Reuben Kwagilwa, said the project is a continuation of the first phase of DMDP, which benefits all five municipal councils of Dar es Salaam including Ilala, Ubungo, Kinondoni, Kigamboni and Temeke through a concessional loan from the World Bank.
He explained that the project aims to strengthen municipal capacity to deliver quality services through improved urban infrastructure and enhanced institutional performance.
Mr Kwagilwa said in Mbagala Constituency, a total of 18.48 kilometres of roads will be built at a cost of 52.3bn/-. He named the roads under construction as Kilimahewa–Toangoma (6.17km) and Masuliza (4.04km), whose progress has reached 16 per cent.
Others include Maandazi (2km), Masaki (3.91km), Kipati (0.72km) and Ndunguru (1.64km), along with two pedestrian bridges that have reached 34 per cent completion.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Works, Godfrey Kasekenya, told Parliament that the government is continuing with the construction of the a 256-kilometre Tanga road including Pangani–Saadani–Makurunge stretch, which is being upgraded to tarmac standard in four phases.
He said the first phase, covering the 50-kilometre Tanga–Pangani section, has reached 77 per cent, while the second phase involving the Pangani River Bridge and 14 kilometres of connecting road has reached 80.16 per cent.
The third phase, covering 92.5 kilometres from Tungamaa–Mkwaja–Kwamsisi–Mkange, stands at 57.38 per cent. Mr Kasekenya added that the remaining section from Mkange– Makurunge (75km) has completed its design stage and the government is sourcing funds to begin construction.
