Mbagala-Gerezani BRT nearly complete

TANZANIA : CONSTRUCTION work on Phase II of the Dar es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit (BRT II) from Mbagala to Gerezani is now 98.5 per cent complete; what is awaited is finalisation of terminals construction.
The Project Contractor Sinohydro Corporation Ltd issued an information that completion of the infrastructure will help driving the economy and ease transport for Dar es Salaam and Coast regions residents who have been spending much time to travel to and from the city centre.
Sinohydro Corporation Commercial Manager Mr Lee Min said the residents are eagerly waiting for completion of the project that will be officially handed over to the government in October this year.
“The construction has observed standard and high expertise as per the requirements,” Mr Lee assured, adding that the project involves construction of 20.3 kilometres of BRT road infrastructure and the regular Kilwa Road.
He mentioned some of challenges the company faced during the construction stint as including drivers not observing the road traffic laws.
“This challenge caused damages to newly constructed infrastructures of the project, forcing us to reconstruct,” he stated.
He trashed reports on social media alleging that the project was below standard, arguing that several government leaders have been visiting the site and give advice at every stage of construction.
Mr Lee said the project also adhered to guidance from the consulting engineer and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) have been inspecting the project regularly.
“Social media reports are just politics, we only focus on ensuring that work is done with high standard,” Mr Lee said.
On his part, Representative of Botex Company that constructs BRT terminals, Engineer Christian Kuyonza, said the construction of terminals was ongoing and that inspectors have been scrutinising the construction works from time to time as well as correcting errors.
He said the materials used for construction of the terminals are of high quality.
Eng Kayonza further asked the residents to safeguard the project and use it wisely so that it could last longer.
