Mayele claims fit to face Rivers United

YOUNG Africans striker Fiston Mayele is fit to face Rivers United in Port Harcourt, Nigeria after picking slight injury during the Dar es Salaam derby against Simba last Sunday.

On the day, Mayele was slightly injured and got medical attention off the pitch before returning to continue with the match.

Speaking to reporters at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam en route to Nigeria, Mayele insisted that he is progressing well.

Commenting on the upcoming match, he stressed that it is set to be a tough encounter to both teams as both teams have gone through squad transformation.

“We have brought in some new players just like them meaning that the approaching match is going to be competitive…but if I get a chance to score, I will score in order to hand my team a win,” Mayele said.

Yanga play Rivers United in the first leg quarterfinal match of CAF Confederation Cup at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Nigeria on Sunday.

The two sides expect to meet in the reverse leg game at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam next week for yet an explosive fixture which will define the destiny of the two teams in the contest.

The overall winner seals a space into the semifinals where Yanga have already pledged that it is their top priority to reach.

Meanwhile, Yanga have already declared that tickets for their return leg match against the Nigerian giants are already on sale.

“Tickets for the reverse leg are on the market whereby those of VIP A are sold at 30,000/-, VIP B 20,000/-, VIP C 15,000/- while Orange and common seats are valued at 10,000/- and 5,000/- respectively,” Yanga’s Media and Communication Manager Ali Kamwe said.

He also stressed that so far, none of their players is injured following the electric traditional derby match as such, each is looking forward to the confederation cup encounter.

Again, he reiterated that their objectives of retaining the Premier League title plus the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) silverware remain static saying they are on the right path to achieve the feat.

To book space with Rivers United, Yanga finished at the top of group D with 13 points from six games while the Nigerian team claimed second place in group B with 10 points.
