Mavunde to open TAMISA conference in Dar today

DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Minerals Mr Anthony Mavunde is expected to officially open a special conference organised by the Tanzania Mining Industry Suppliers Association (TAMISA) today.

The conference, which is being held in collaboration with TAMISA’s Special Committee on Marketing and Communications, will take place in Dar es Salaam and will bring together various stakeholders from the mining sector.

TAMISA Chairman Mr Peter Kumalilwa said that the event aims to strengthen the association’s operational capacity by introducing it to key stakeholders and organisations. This, he explained, will help streamline the delivery of services within the mining sector.

“This conference will serve as a crucial platform for providing information to entrepreneurs currently involved in, or wishing to engage in, the mining sector. It will help them identify and seize available opportunities,” said Mr Kumalilwa.

He added that, in addition to providing valuable information and education, the conference will focus on the role of local Tanzanians in providing services to the mining industry, as well as discussing existing challenges and opportunities.

Mr Kumalilwa also revealed that over 3.1tri/- has been allocated for the procurement of equipment and services in various mines, funds that could benefit Tanzanian companies if they are empowered with the right knowledge and resources.

“As the voice of mining stakeholders, our main responsibility is to ensure local service providers receive the information and knowledge necessary to engage in the mining sector’s value chain,” he explained.

Mr Kumalilwa said that TAMISA plans to raise awareness about establishing local industries to reduce reliance on imported goods, thereby making a significant contribution to national economic development.

He expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, for fostering an environment that allows Tanzanians to directly engage in opportunities within the mining sector and for encouraging foreign investments in the country.

“President Samia has given us a great opportunity to attend international mining conferences, where we’ve gained valuable knowledge and skills to bring back home. We also commend Minister Mavunde for being at the forefront of facilitating opportunities for local players,” he said.

TAMISA’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Dr Sebastian Ndege, noted the association’s crucial role in connecting service providers with mine owners to simplify collaboration.

“Often, suppliers lack official channels to reach mining companies. As TAMISA, we will ensure they are connected so they can achieve their business goals,” Dr Ndege explained.

He encouraged Tanzanian companies offering services in the mining sector to join TAMISA to benefit from the information, training, and various opportunities the association provides.

“We welcome all entrepreneurs and mine suppliers to join us at this important conference, which will serve as a platform to discuss how best to build the capacity of Tanzanians to fully participate in the mining sector,” he said.

Dr Ndege also stressed the importance of companies providing services to the mining sector prioritising the creation of opportunities and employment for Tanzanians, which will contribute to domestic economic growth.
