Matola: We need to be more clinical

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA Assistant Coach Selemani Matola said they will work hard to improve on scoring efficiency ahead of their remaining Premier League matches of the campaign. The Reds secured a vital 2-1 win against Coastal Union at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga over the weekend thanks to substitute Willy Onana who pumped in a winning goal.
The victory enabled Simba to collect 39 points from 17 matches and they now trail leaders Young Africans by 7 points after equaling on the number of played encounters.
“We indeed fail to utilise well scoring opportunities we make during such matches, because we lack enough time to do that…we are going to work on the problem to ensure that we make good use of each netting opportunity that comes our way,” he said.
Also, he pointed out that fatigue among his charges is another setback that they face as they are compelled to play a competitive match after two days. Concerning the title race, Matola confidently said they are still contenders as there are many games to be played hence they should not be written off at this stage of the season.
Commenting about the suspension of Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro which Simba were using as their home turf, Matola said at that time, he had no information about the issue.
On Saturday, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) released a statement about the suspension of the stadium citing production problems faced by Television broadcasters Azam TV and that Simba will be using Azam Complex instead.
“If it is true, then it is good news for us because we will be hosting our matches at Azam Complex which is of good quality and will help us in many ways,” he said.
On his part, Coastal Union coach David Ouma said leaving the result aside, he is happy to see the growth of his team as in just three months at the helm, there is a big improvement.
“We had a good plan to win the match but things did not work well, in reality, my team is growing and in just three months, a lot has happened…that is the positive part to us,” he said.
Furthermore, the Kenyan trainer disclosed that their target this season is to finish the season in top four and that to achieve it, they need to work hard by winning most of their incoming matches.
