Bahari Rotary marks 16th charity golf milestone

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Rotary Club of Bahari Dar es Salaam will host its 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Gymkhana Club (DGC) course.

The 18-hole tournament brings together golfers, corporate leaders, Rotarians and friends of Rotary for a day of sport, fellowship and community service.

Rotary Club of Bahari president Irene Bizere said the 16th edition marked an important milestone, noting that the tournament had grown beyond golf into a platform for friendship, corporate partnership and service. The club has implemented projects in health, education, environmental conservation, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and community development.

“During the 2025/26 Rotary year, we partnered with the Aga Khan Foundation on a microforest project involving 80 youth volunteers and benefiting more than 300 students and staff,” she said.

Bizere stressed that the club also planted 1,000 trees at the University of Dar es Salaam, provided free cervical cancer screening to at least 150 women, and donated an incinerator to Toangoma Primary School to improve sanitation and waste management.

“Several projects are currently underway, including a neonatal global grant project with SolidarMed to support neonatal wards with equipment and training.

“Other initiatives include renovating primary school toilets, installing an incinerator at Mtakuja Secondary School and providing 450 desks to improve learning conditions for about 3,030 pupils at Toangoma Primary School, including 34 blind pupils.” She noted that healthcare remains another priority.

In July, the club partnered with Rotaract Tanzania and the National Blood Transfusion Service to conduct a blood donation drive in Masaki. The campaign attracted 77 donors, 41 volunteers and collected 44 units of blood, potentially helping save more than 130 lives.
