Maswa envisions fortunes from SGR cargo depot

SIMIYU: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on residents of Maswa District to fully embrace the various opportunities emerging from the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which will pass through the district from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza.

Speaking today June 18 in Maswa, Simiyu Region, President Samia said that, according to the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), a major SGR cargo loading and unloading station will be established in Maswa, a development is expected to unlock significant economic potential for local communities.

The President emphasized the importance of preparing and organizing to benefit from the opportunities, including employment, business tenders during the construction phase, and transportation services once the project is completed.

“There will be job opportunities and tenders during the construction phase, but we also need to prepare to benefit from the railway services once it’s operational. Let’s focus more on production, add value to our products, and access distant markets through the affordable transport that SGR offers,” she said.

Additionally, President Samia commended the Maswa District Council for achieving its local revenue collection targets, noting that such performance reflects strong accountability and readiness to actively participate in the economic transformation brought by this major infrastructure project.

Residents were also urged to remain united, take advantage of the upcoming opportunities, and focus on productive activities to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to national development.
