Masauni warns against disrupting civic polls
KILIMANJARO: THE government has warned groups of people, institutions and political parties that plan to disrupt the coming Local Government Elections to be staged later this year.
The Police Force also has announced the completion of its strategies to strengthen security during the campaign and later the election, promising to take legal action against those who will disrupt the election.
Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Hamad Masauni issued the warning yesterday while closing the preliminary training of police course Number One 2022/2023 at the Moshi Police School located at the Pori Camp in Siha District, Kilimanjaro Region.
Masauni ordered the Police Force to ensure that the civic election is conducted in peaceful atmosphere.
“I call upon all citizens and groups in the community not to make any attempt of disrupting the election,” he warned.
In another development, Minister Masauni ordered the Police Force to embrace and fully implement the Criminal Commission’s recommendations and it should desist from depriving civilians of their rights to exercising their democracy or harassing them.
He wanted them to administer justice, avoid the violation of the civilian rights and shun corruption, including avoiding brutality against innocent civilians.
Regarding the strengthening of the Police Force, Mr Masauni said the government has invested in infrastructure and modern equipment including telecommunication technology so that it can be more modernised.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Camillus Wambura said the Force is well -organised to deal with all those who intend to disrupt the upcoming local election.
Mr Wambura said this year’s civic polls will be peaceful as police have received better training on how to oversee local government election and general election next year.
Moshi Police School Principal, Ramadan Mungi said 3,701 police recruits graduated, while 193 students failed to complete training due to various reasons, including absenteeism and misconduct.
Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Nurdin Babu in his speech read on his behalf by Moshi District Commissioner, Zephania Sumaye called on the police to observe work ethics and the rule of law.
