Marafiki home launches new hub for Tanzanian artists
DAR ES SALAAM: THE government will continue to invest significant resources and support in developing and nurturing musical talent across the country.
By expanding training programmes, improving infrastructure and fostering creative partnerships, we aim to empower our artists and elevate the nation’s cultural landscape.
Those statements were made by the Executive Secretary of the National Arts Council (NAC), Kedmon Mapana, during the recent launch of the new Marafiki Home building a temporary residence for artists aimed at preparing them and connecting them to the international art market.
Mapana said that the building is a unique solution to the challenges faced by artists in the country, calling it an important step toward the sustainable development of the arts sector.
“Marafiki Home is a prime example of cutting-edge innovation. It is a place where our artists can access accommodation, training and opportunities to develop work of international quality. NAC will continue to collaborate with Art for Social and Economic Development in Africa ASEDEVA to ensure this institution receives the appropriate support from the government.” He noted.
He added that, “The launch of Marafiki Home marks a transformative moment for Tanzania’s arts and creative industry. This innovative initiative offers a safe and inspiring space where artists can not only live temporarily but also benefit from professional development programmes tailored to elevate their skills to meet global market demands.”
“Beyond being a residence, Marafiki Home is set to become a cornerstone in the nation’s long-term strategy to nurture and export creative excellence. By connecting artists with the global art market, it strengthens Tanzania’s cultural identity and economic potential through the creative economy.” He noted.

To his part The Director of ASEDEVA, Isack Abenengo, described the newly launched Marafiki Home as part of a long-term strategy to provide artists with an enabling environment for creativity and international communication.
