Manyoni trains revenue collectors on integrity
MANYONI: MANYONI District Council has trained newly recruited revenue collectors on integrity, professionalism and compliance with public service laws ahead of deploying them to collect local government revenue.
The specialised training was conducted on Monday by officials from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), the Human Resources Office, the Treasury, the Information and Communication Technology Unit and the Department of Culture, Arts and Sports.
The officers were directed to avoid corrupt practices, ensure that all revenue collected is deposited into bank accounts and perform their duties in accordance with established procedures.
The collectors also received operational guidance from the office of the Manyoni District Executive Director before assuming their responsibilities.

The council said the training forms part of efforts to strengthen revenue collection, close loopholes that contribute to financial losses and ensure that locally generated revenue is properly managed to support development projects.
The move is expected to improve accountability in revenue administration while ensuring public funds are channelled towards service delivery and development initiatives that benefit residents.
Meanwhile, the council has intensified oversight of development projects through inspections carried out by its Monitoring and Evaluation Unit in collaboration with experts from the Infrastructure Division and the Department of Agriculture.
The team inspected several projects across the district, including the Kintinku Village Market, the Chibumagwa Dam rehabilitation and expansion project and the rehabilitation of the Punguza area.
During the inspections, officials issued technical guidance to contractors and project supervisors to ensure the works meet the required standards, are completed on time and deliver value to residents.
The council said the exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen project oversight; promote efficient use of public resources and ensure development projects are completed on schedule and to the expected quality.
