Manungu arena sees rare goal galore

A RARE goal galore was stamped at Manungu Complex in Mvomero District when Azam beat Mtibwa Sugar 4-3 in their Premier League match on Saturday.

The yesterday’s 10th round game ended with a seven-goal thriller, a rare record of goals and football fans real enjoyed the free scoring, though it was painful loss to the hosts, Mtibwa Sugar.

Mtibwa Sugar have already conceded 9 goals in their two matches against the Dar es Salaam football giants.

Mtibwa Sugar lost 5-0 to Simba in their round 8 game at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium a fortnight ago.

It looked as an easy win for Azam as they were leading 3-0 until the end of the first half before Mtibwa Sugar regain composure in the second half to claim three goals.

Azam netted their opener in 17th minute through Idrissa Mbombo who connected home Cleofas Mkandala’s pass.

Mtibwa Sugar’s Juma Nyange reacted with a long range in the 26th minutes, but the shot went wide.

Mbombo headed home the second goal in 29th minute and Abdallah Heri Sebo added the third in 40th minute to enable Azam lead 3-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half witnessed Mtibwa Sugar coming a rejuvenated side and they managed to convert their opener in the 61st minute through Adam Adam who  superbly finished Ismail Mhesa’s volley from the right flank.

Azam added their fourth goal a few minutes later through defender Daniel Amoah who utilised well Ayoub Lyanga’s corner kick.

In the 74th minute Adam Adam scored his team’s second goal completing Balama Mapinduzi’s spadework.

In the dying minutes, Mtibwa Sugar netted their third goal through Nassor Kiziwa, but no more goal was added after that as Azam held it on until the final whistle.
