MANAWASA moves to secure water future

MASASI: THE Masasi Nachingwea Water and Sanitation Authority (MANAWASA) is moving to secure the region’s water future with new plans to expand water sources and improve access to clean and reliable water in four districts.

Information available from the Ministry of Water indicates that the authority has unveiled short and long-term projects targeting Masasi, Nachingwea, Mangaka and Ruangwa districts as demand for water continues to rise.

According to the ministry, the plans were outlined during a management visit to the Ruvuma Basin and South Coast Basin Water Boards on Thursday, where officials reviewed strategies to strengthen water supply systems.

In the immediate phase, MANAWASA will rehabilitate wells at Mkumba Farm, construct an intake at the Chipango River aquifer and drill new boreholes in Chisegu, Mchaka, Mpota, Mlundelunde, Sululu, Matawale and Magumuchila villages.

The authority’s long-term blueprint includes rehabilitating the Mkumba Farm Dam, constructing a water intake on the Mahiwa River and developing infrastructure to tap water from the Ruvuma River to boost supply in Mangaka and Masasi.

The projects are expected to increase water availability, improve service reliability and strengthen water security as population growth and economic activities continue to drive demand in areas served by MANAWASA.
