Man poisons himself after killing wife

GEITA: A MAN identified as Mayala Juma, a resident of Kilombero Village in Lwamgasa Ward, Geita District, died after allegedly poisoning himself shortly after killing his wife, Maria Salvatory.

Geita Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Safia Jongo, confirmed the incident, saying the murder occurred on November 17, 2025, at around 7 am.

According to SACP Jongo, Maria was found dead with severe head injuries caused by a blunt object and multiple stab wounds inflicted with a sharp instrument.

“After committing the murder, Juma locked himself in a room and ingested a poison known as Synonym Crown along with other chemicals,” she said in her statement.

She added: “Mayala was rushed to Geita District Hospital in a bid to save his life, but he succumbed at dawn on November 18, 2025.”

She further explained that preliminary investigations indicate the incident was fuelled by jealousy, after the husband accused his wife of infidelity and having relationships with other men outside their marriage.

Moreover, SACP Jongo confirmed that the bodies of both deceased have undergone postmortem examinations and have since been handed over to their families for burial.

“We urge the citizens to resolve conflicts early to prevent such avoidable tragedies,” said SACP Jongo.
