Mama Samia Legal Aid campaign targets thousands in Dodoma

DODOMA: THE second phase of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign is set to kick off in Dodoma Region tomorrow, targeting thousands of residents with free legal services.
The campaign will run from May 1 to 15, 2026. Speaking at a press briefing in Dodoma, Regional Commissioner Ms Rosemary Senyamule said the rollout follows the success of phase one, where tens of thousands of citizens received legal education and support in resolving various disputes.
She said residents will access free legal services, including legal education, preparation of legal documents, court and tribunal representation, as well as alternative dispute resolution. The campaign will also facilitate registration of vital events such as birth and death certificates through the Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA).
Ms Senyamule said the campaign’s theme, “Legal Aid for Justice, Equality, Peace and Development,” aligns with the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, which aims to build an inclusive and just society. Service delivery will cover all eight councils, wards and villages across Dodoma Region.

“Communities will be educated on land ownership, dispute resolution, marriage and inheritance matters, human rights, governance and gender-based violence, while accessing legal assistance,” she said.
Ms Senyamule named key legal aid centres, including Dodoma City, Chamwino, Kongwa, Mpwapwa, Bahi, Chemba and Kondoa, adding that mobile teams will reach remote areas to ensure inclusive access.
The RC urged residents to cooperate fully during the 15-day exercise to ensure its success. Community education will also take place in markets, bus stands, public gatherings and learning institutions. Ms Senyamule said Dodoma was the first region to implement the campaign in 2023, recording strong results.
During phase one, 86,947 residents received legal aid services, with 818 disputes registered. Of these, 452 cases were resolved, while others are ongoing. “With this demand and the clear benefits observed, the government finds it essential to continue bringing legal services closer to the people,” she added.
