Malisa orders revenue drive, grievance resolution
TABORA: TABORA Regional Commissioner, Mr Beno Malisa has directed council directors to strengthen revenue collection, seal loopholes that lead to loss of public funds and resolve citizens’ complaints promptly instead of waiting for visits by senior leaders.
Speaking after officially taking over office from former Regional Commissioner, Mr Paulo Matiko Chacha on Monday, Mr Malisa said the region’s progress would depend on accountability, cooperation and effective service delivery at all levels.
“Leaders should set aside time to listen to wananchi and resolve their challenges in their respective areas instead of waiting for visits by leaders,” he said.
Mr Malisa also instructed local authorities to identify new sources of revenue while ensuring existing collections are properly managed to support development activities across the region.
He was officially welcomed yesterday where Tabora Regional Administrative Secretary Dr John Mboya assured him of the Regional Secretariat’s support in carrying out his responsibilities.

Dr Mboya thanked Chacha for his service, saying he had led the region in accordance with the principles of good governance, laws and established procedures.
Mr Chacha, in his farewell remarks, thanked residents and leaders for the cooperation they had extended to him during his tenure and urged them to offer the same support to Malisa.
Beyond revenue collection, Malisa called on government, political and religious leaders to educate communities on preparedness for the anticipated El Niño rains to minimise possible impacts during the coming season.
“We must use every available platform to educate wananchi so they can take the necessary precautions before the rains arrive,” he said.
He also stressed the need to strengthen environmental cleanliness across the region and said he would work with stakeholders from different sectors to promote cleaner, safer and more sustainable communities.
“The success of this region will depend on cooperation, accountability and unity among wananchi and leaders at all levels,” Mr Malisa said.
